The first session is used as a time for mutual evaluation.  I am interested in learning more about you, your reasons for seeking out therapy, the background related to your current problem as well as your earlier history which gives context to your current situation.  The first session is also an opportunity for you to learn more about how I work and for you to assess how comfortable you feel with my therapy style.  I am happy to answer questions about my education and training and to tell you more about how I might approach our work together.  By the end of the first or second session, my goal is to develop a preliminary treatment plan which will map out your treatment goals and how I may help you attain them.

My standard fee for a 50 minute session is $150.  I require that my fee is paid when services are rendered.  Although I do not accept insurance (except for Victims of Crime Compensation), I am happy to supply the receipts necessary for you to submit to your insurance carrier for reimbursement.

Everyone is unique. Some people come in with problems that can be resolved in a brief amount of time (say, less than 12 sessions).  Others present with more complex situations which require more extensive sessions.  The length of therapy can also depend upon your treatment goals.  In our first few sessions, we can discuss approximately how long it may take to reach your treatment goals.

Information you share with me is confidential unless you give me permission in writing to release information to a specific party.  There are some exceptions to this rule and they are as follows:

• If you are a danger to yourself, a danger to others or you are gravely disabled due to a mental health condition, I am required by law to break confidentiality as necessary to insure your safety/public safety by having you involuntarily hospitalized for up to 72 hours for observation and treatment.
• In the course of our treatment, if I become suspicious of child abuse, elder or dependent adult abuse, I am required to file a mandatory child or adult abuse report to CPS or APS.  It would be up to the social workers of the respective agencies to decide whether or not to investigate the alleged abuse.
• If you file legal action against your employer and the case is subpoenaed by a judge, I may be required to submit your records to the court.
• If you are newly diagnosed with a type of dementia or seizure disorder and you possess a driver's license, I am required to report this to the DMV.
